Dentist Veneers
Dental veneers are also called porcelain veneers or dental porcelain laminates and are one of cosmetic dentistry’s recent developments. They create a bright and white smile that is beautifully aligned. A veneer is a thin shells of porcelain that are adhered to the front side of teeth and is an excellent cosmetic solution for teeth that are chipped, stained or crooked.
There are many reasons veneers are used:
1. Discoloration. Teeth that are discolored come from root canal treatment, stains, resin fillings, excessive fluoride and many other causes.
2. Wearing down of teeth.
3. Misalignment, unevenness, or misshaped. Sometimes teeth have bulges or craters.
4. Chips or breaks.
5. Gaps or holes between teeth.
Dental veneers are made from either porcelain or resin composite materials. Porcelain does resist stains better than resin and also look a lot like natural teeth. Veneers that are made from resin are thinner and need less removal of the teeth’s surface before placement.
There are two advantages that porcelain dental veneers have over other types of bonding. One is that the porcelain is made to look much like natural teeth. Since they are made of porcelain, they give off a translucent appearance. The second advantage is that they are very resistant to staining. Since the porcelain is made of ceramic, it is very hard to stain.
For dental veneers to last a long time, it is important to take very good care of them as well as your mouth and gums. Make sure that you are brushing and flossing your teeth daily. Try not to clench or grind the veneers as this can lead to chipping and cracking. It is also very important to avoid a lot of exposure to coffee, red wine, soda, tea and tobacco; all of these can lead to potential staining.
